Building Units
In the Building Units submenu, you can create and configure building units to enable accurate allocation of consumption to tenants in Split Billing.
This page allows you to create and configure building units, which are subparts of a building used for allocating consumption in the Split Billing module. Properly managing building units, including defining their properties and distribution keys, is a required first step to ensure that energy or water consumption can be accurately attributed to tenants based on their rental contracts.
Manage Building Units
Add a Building Unit
A building unit can be added via the + Add Unit button.
A unit is a subpart of a building, which is configured in Asset Management.
Start and End Date
Building units can optionally have a start date and an end date. These dates are taken into account during billing calculations.
For example: if a meter is linked to a unit with a start date from 01/04/2025, it will not be allocated to that unit in Q1 2025.
Configure Unit Properties
To divide energy or water consumption between multiple building units, you must configure the distribution property/properties in the Additional Information section of the building unit.
To set these properties, open the details page of the building unit using the history icon.
These properties can have multiple versions over time. This allows you to reflect changes in the unit's characteristics without overwriting historical (billing) data.
Each version has an “active from” date that indicates when it takes effect.
To add a new version, create a new property line - using Add new properties button - with the updated values and set the appropriate active from date.
The system will automatically use the correct version for calculations based on the date of the consumption.
If you only want to update existing values without creating a new version, press the Actions icon. The edit screen will open, allowing you to make changes.
Available Distribution Keys
The following types of distribution keys are provided:
Surface: the surface area of the unit (always required)
Volume: the volume of the unit
Quotity: the unit’s quotity
Building Unit Occupancy: the occupancy of the unit
Percentage: if none of the above applies, you can choose a custom percentage
Surface is a mandatory field, but it is important to set the property that will be used as the repartition key for consumption allocation.
Edit a Building Unit
If you want to edit basic properties of an unit, you can
press the edit icon next to the appropriate unit in the overview page.
press the history icon. o open the Building Units details page. From there, you can perform the same actions as described in Asset Management – Building Units.
Delete a Building Unit
You can delete a building unit from within the details page (see navigation instructions above). Once on the details page, use the delete button to remove the unit. This action can not be undone.
